Claudia Sheinbaum Cancels Hospital Opening Due to Bad Weather
President Claudia Sheinbaum canceled a scheduled event on Friday in Orizaba, Veracruz. The event was meant to celebrate the opening of the IMSS-Bienestar Mental Health Hospital named after Dr. Víctor M. Concha Vásquez. Many people had gathered to see her and hear her speech.
Sheinbaum apologized for the cancellation in a video shared on her X account. She explained that bad weather prevented her from arriving. She had visited Nautla and Jalapa earlier to supervise hospital construction and was headed to Orizaba when the weather turned poor.
Additionally, Sheinbaum, along with the elected governor Rocío Nahle García and the current governor of Veracruz, Cuitláhuac García Jiménez, addressed a landslide on the Cumbres de Maltrata highway. She instructed the Secretary of Infrastructure, Communications, and Transport to expedite repair efforts. The landslide occurred on October 25 at kilometer 230 on the Orizaba-Puebla highway, affecting both traffic lanes. Local businesses have urged swift action due to severe economic impacts.
Sheinbaum promised the residents she would return to Orizaba before Cuitláhuac García’s term ends to visit the new hospital. She expressed her desire to reconnect with the community soon.
Statistics from the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) indicate that three out of ten people will experience a mental disorder in their lifetime. More than 60% of these individuals do not receive treatment.
