CNH Industrial to close Burlington Plant, laying Off 209
CNH Industrial will close its Burlington, Iowa, plant this spring, resulting in the layoff of 209 workers. The company, which owns Case and New Holland Construction Equipment, first announced the closure in November 2024 and finalized the decision after reaching an agreement with the United Auto Workers.
Iowa officials were notified this week that layoffs will begin in March and conclude by May 29, according to the Iowa Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) website.
The closure is part of a larger trend impacting Iowa’s manufacturing sector. Since January 2024, 33 manufacturing companies have announced the closure of 36 plants across the state, impacting a total of 3,646 workers. Factors contributing to these closures include declining product demand, aging facilities, and the movement of production to other countries.
CNH Industrial attributes the Burlington plant’s closure to a 47% decrease in demand for loader-backhoe tractors since 2014.
