Clintonville Books: A New York City-Style Bookstore Opens in Ohio
New Bookstore Opens in Clintonville
An author has opened a new bookstore in Clintonville, Ohio. Grant Sabatier, a Penguin Random House author, is the owner of Clintonville Books. He wanted to create a bookstore inspired by iconic shops in New York City.
Sabatier moved to Clintonville four years ago with his wife, who teaches anthropology at Ohio State University. He has collected books for 20 years and used some royalties from his book to fund the store. He believes Clintonville needed a unique bookstore experience.
The store is modeled after popular New York City bookstores: Left Bank Books, Mass Books, and The Strand Bookstore. Sabatier hopes the bookstore will serve the community of creators, makers, writers, and thinkers.
Clintonville Books offers a variety of new, used, and rare books. The selection includes current releases and award-winning titles such as Booker Prize winners and Pulitzer recipients. The store carries collectible books on gardening, cooking, and hobbies. One of Sabatier’s favorites is “How to knit your own Norwegian sweater.”
The store features seven rare bookcases, holding volumes from the 16th century to signed first editions of contemporary works. Sabatier aims to provide a unique selection for Columbus.
In addition to selling books, Clintonville Books will host events including folk music concerts, jazz shows, poetry readings, and author signings.
Sabatier and his family, including their 2-year-old daughter, are excited about their new life in Clintonville. Sabatier wants his daughter to grow up surrounded by books. He said, “I really wanted Clintonville to have just the most amazing bookstore because this is hopefully our home for the next 30 years.”
