CFR Cluj faced a stunning 7-2 defeat at the hands of Häcken in Sweden on⁣ Thursday,August 21st,in the first leg of ‍the 4th qualifying⁢ round of the UEFA Europa Conference league. The result represents a notable ⁤setback for the Romanian side, leaving them ⁢with a monumental task in the⁤ return leg.

The match quickly turned sour for CFR Cluj, with Häcken taking the lead ⁢within the first two minutes. By the 35th ⁣minute, the Swedish team had established a commanding 4-0 advantage. ⁣While Cluj-Napoca managed to pull one back⁤ before ‍halftime,⁤ bringing ⁣the score to 5-1, the⁢ damage was ⁢already done. Häcken continued their dominance in the second half, extending their lead to ⁣7-2 by the 70th minute, effectively sealing the outcome of the match.

A Winding Road to the Playoff Round

CFR Cluj’s journey to this point⁢ has been‍ complex. Initially competing in the Europa League qualifying rounds, thay progressed past Paksi FC⁣ before falling ‍to Portuguese side Braga ⁢in ⁤the second round. This defeat⁤ led to their transfer to the Conference League qualifying path, where they encountered‍ Häcken. Interestingly, Häcken themselves had been eliminated from the⁣ Europa League earlier in the qualifying stages.

Prior to the match, Häcken hadn’t appeared to be an insurmountable obstacle, having recently ‍suffered a 6-1 defeat in a domestic league match and losing ⁢their previous three‍ home games. However, the bookmakers’ predictions of a close contest proved wildly inaccurate.
