The CNE has long been a place where love stories begin. ”Every year we meet and hear from visitors who tell us that they had their first date at the CNE or met their partners while working their summer job,” shares Jane Matthews, CNE Marketing Director. “We even know of a few vendors, some who have been married for more than 50 years, who first met and fell in love at the CNE.” With a history of proposals happening at the beloved exhibition, the CNE decided it was time to take it a step further. “We’ve had wedding proposals at the CNE, so this year we thought, why not a wedding ceremony?!” Matthews exclaims.

The “Marriage on the Midway” contest officially opens today, inviting Ontario couples to apply for this once-in-a-lifetime prospect. The winning couple will exchange vows on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at the CNE, creating a picture-perfect moment framed by the bright lights and festive energy of the Midway.
Sweet Treats and Captured Moments
To make the festivity even sweeter, the newlyweds will be treated to a custom wedding cake designed by a local bakery, a featured entry from the CNE’s inaugural cake decorating competition. And to ensure every precious moment is preserved, an official wedding photographer will be on hand to capture everything from the ceremony to the post-vows joyride.
A Celebration for Two, Plus Twenty!
The festivities don’t stop at the altar. The winning couple and up to 20 guests will receive day passes with unlimited rides, allowing them to relive the magic of the Midway together.To indulge in classic CNE eats, they’ll also enjoy $500 in food vouchers, perfect for sharing Tiny Tom’s doughnuts, ice cream waffle sandwiches, and all the other beloved fairground favourites.
A Star-studded Finale
To top it all off, the newlyweds will receive reserved seating at the Bell CNE Bandshell to enjoy a live performance by 98 Degrees. the iconic boy band will even be performing their wedding anthem, “I Do (Cherish You),” making the evening a truly romantic and memorable conclusion to their special day.
How to Enter the “marriage on the Midway” Contest
Are you an Ontario couple ready to say “I do” in the most unique way possible? Eligible lovebirds must be Ontario residents aged 18 or older. The deadline to submit your love story is august 8 at 11:59 p.m. The chosen couple will be announced by August 15.
