Expanded Categories and AI Integration
For the 30th anniversary, the Webby Awards expanded several of its categories to better reflect the current technological landscape. These expansions specifically target the areas of artificial intelligence, creators, podcasts, and social media.
The influence of artificial intelligence was a central theme of this year’s nominations. Nominees in the AI space include Google Gemini, OpenAI, and Anthropic. OpenAI’s now-shuttered Sora is also among the nominees.
The IADAS stated that the awards aim to honor a specific set of digital achievements:
excellence on the Internet and celebrat[e] the creators, companies, platforms, and personalities shaping today’s cultural and technological landscape.
