Co-op Offers Discount​ After Cyberattack⁣ Disrupts Stores, Steals Data

Following a significant cyberattack that impacted its stores in May, Co-op is providing its 6.5 million members with a ⁤25% discount on a ⁢£40 ⁢shop ⁢as a ⁤gesture of ⁤gratitude.The cyberattack, one​ of several recently targeting retailers, led to bare shelves and ⁤payment disruptions across Co-op’s 2,300 food ⁣stores.

The retailer confirmed that hackers‍ also ⁢accessed and ⁢stole personal data, ⁣including names and contact details of its members. Other retailers, including marks & ⁣Spencer and Harrods, have also been targeted by cyberattacks ​recently. M&S estimates the cost⁣ of⁣ their incident at around £300 million.

The discount offer, available to both existing ‍and new members, is valid from ‌June 18 to June ‌24, as Co-op‍ stores return to normal operations ‌after​ the‌ “cyberattack‍ recovery.”

Matt Hood,‍ managing director of food at co-op, expressed gratitude to the⁣ members. “I’m vrey proud ⁣that, thanks ⁢to the work ​of our colleagues,⁣ we are very near ⁣to making a full and complete recovery from the recent cyberattack on‌ our Co-op,” Hood said. He added that he was delighted to see stores returning⁢ to normal and serving shoppers and communities again.

“We are so‍ grateful to⁣ our member owners for⁣ their support and patience with‌ us during what was‍ a very arduous time and hope this gesture ⁤of appreciation goes a⁣ little way to showing them ⁤our thanks, with more value rewards to come over the ​summer,” Hood said.
