Coastal Crusaders: Yeongdeok-gun Unites for Massive Beach Cleanup in Anticipation of Major Event
Yeongdeok County will carry out intensive marine environment purification activities to successfully host the large-scale events ‘Moonlight Whale Trekking’ and ‘International H Wellness Festa’ held in late September and early October.
Yeongdeok County selects marine environment guardians every year and deploys 3-4 people to each of the 6 towns and counties adjacent to the coast to continuously collect marine waste and monitor illegal dumping.

This year, 22 marine environment guardians have been selected and operated since April, and as of last year, 491 tons of discarded fishing nets and household waste washed up on the shore due to typhoons and heavy rains were collected and processed.
This intensive marine environment cleanup activity is expected to attract many domestic and foreign visitors and tourists to the ‘Moonlight Whale Trekking’ night trekking event held along Yeongdeok Blue Road on the 28th and the ‘International H Wellness Festa’ from the 3rd to the 6th of next month, where you can experience traditional world medicine and modern wellness programs, so marine environment guardians have decided to take on the environmental beautification activity.
Jeong Je-hoon, head of the Marine and Fisheries Division, said, “Marine waste collection is a task that takes place in areas with many risk factors, such as slippery terrain and high waves. We will do our best to ensure that workers wear safety equipment, receive accident prevention training, and work based on manuals.”
