Sean Kanan Floats Cobra Kai Spinoff: Barnes and Chozen as Roommates
Updated June 9, 2025
Actor Sean Kanan, known for his role as Mike Barnes in The karate Kid Part III and Cobra Kai, has proposed an idea for a potential spinoff series. The concept centers on Barnes and Chozen Toguchi, played by Yuji Okumoto, as reluctant roommates.
Kanan shared his vision during an interview with Mind Blowing Films, suggesting a comedy that explores the dynamic between the two former rivals. The proposed Cobra Kai spinoff woudl follow Mike Barnes and Chozen as they navigate life and the dating scene in thier 50s.
The premise plays on the characters’ contrasting personalities. Kanan imagines Barnes as meticulously clean, while Chozen is portrayed as a slob, creating comedic friction in their shared living space. The Karate Kid veteran believes this odd-couple dynamic offers a fresh take within the Cobra Kai universe, blending martial arts action with humor.
I thought it’d be kind of funny if you had Chozen and Mike Barnes are roommates together, and Mike Barnes is really clean, and Chozen’s like a mess, and a slob. They’re two guys trying to navigate the dating scene at 50 years old.
What’s next
Whether Kanan’s pitch gains traction remains to be seen, but it highlights the continued interest in expanding the Karate Kid and Cobra Kai franchise with new storylines and character pairings.
