Cochrane Pediatric Follow-Up Program Opens New Space
Cochrane Kids Get Specialized Care Closer to Home with New Pediatric Follow-Up Program
Cochrane, Alberta – A new Pediatric Follow-Up Program at the Cochrane urgent Care Center is streamlining care for families and bringing specialized pediatric services directly to the community. Since opening six months ago, the program has been connecting families with health specialists and providing crucial follow-up care for children right in Cochrane.”It improves pediatric patient care phenomenally,” says Cinthia Zeer, Trustee for the Cochrane and Area Health Foundation (CAHF), which spearheaded the project. “Families can get appointments directly through their physician after a visit at the Urgent Care Centre, eliminating the need for extra travel and wait times.”
The program also benefits children who have received care at the Alberta Children’s Hospital in Calgary. Those living in Cochrane can now access follow-up appointments closer to home.
“It’s a quicker way for kids to be seen and followed up,” Zeer explains. “And because the space is operated by Urgent Care staff, it doesn’t incur significant additional costs for Alberta Health Services.”
The CAHF recognized the need for a dedicated pediatric space within the Urgent Care centre and took on the project as one of it’s first initiatives.
“urgent Care assigned us a room, and we redesigned it to make it look more welcoming for children,” Zeer says. “The community was incredibly excited about the project and eager to help.”
Local artists and businesses came together to transform the space. Nineteen artists donated unique artwork, creating a vibrant and engaging environment for young patients. The CAHF also purchased specialized pediatric equipment, ensuring the space is fully equipped to meet the needs of children.
“We updated the seating, added new paint and furniture, and incorporated the gorgeous artwork,” Zeer says. ”It’s set up perfectly for kids, creating a calming and comfortable atmosphere.”
The CAHF sees this program as a vital step forward for healthcare in Cochrane.
“We saw how critically important it was and how much value it could bring to families in our community,” Zeer says. ”We’re thrilled to be able to provide this much-needed service right here in Cochrane.”
