Coco Gauff continued her strong performance at the French Open, securing a spot in the quarterfinals with a straight-sets victory.Meanwhile, Lois Boisson delivered a major upset, defeating Jessica Pegula in a thrilling three-set match.
Gauff defeated Ekaterina Alexandrova 6-0, 7-5, marking her fifth straight quarterfinal appearance at Roland Garros. “The whole match I played well,” Gauff said, adding that she felt comfortable with the physical demands of playing on clay.
Boisson, ranked No. 361, rallied to beat Pegula 3-6, 6-4, 6-4. Despite a slow start, Boisson energized the crowd on court Philippe-Chatrier. The French player’s victory marks her as the first Frenchwoman to reach the quarterfinals since 2017.
The crowd erupted in a rendition of La Marseillaise, the French national anthem, after Boisson’s victory. Overcoming a previous knee injury, Boisson expressed her gratitude, stating, “Playing on this court in such a great atmosphere, it was astonishing.”
Boisson’s powerful forehand proved difficult for Pegula. After forcing a deciding set, boisson broke for 5-4 and served out the match, becoming the first French wild card to reach the Roland Garros quarterfinals since Mary Pierce in 2002. She is also the lowest-ranked woman to make a Grand Slam quarterfinal since Kaia Kanepi at the 2017 US Open.
Madison Keys also advanced, defeating fellow American hailey Baptiste 6-3, 7-5. Keys will now face Gauff in an all-American quarterfinal.
Mirra Andreeva, a semifinalist at Roland Garros last year, overcame Daria Kasatkina 6-3, 7-5. Andreeva will now face boisson in the quarterfinals.

Gauff addressed a recent incident where she forgot to bring her rackets to a match, drawing playful teasing from Frances Tiafoe. Tiafoe, who made the same mistake earlier this year, called Gauff “Mrs. Mature.” Gauff responded, “I feel like maybe just playing tennis, it forces you to grow up faster for some people. Maybe not him.”
Gauff acknowledged Tiafoe’s ribbing, admitting she had teased him previously for the same error. “I literally told him: ‘From you, I expected it. from you, it’s OK, but the fact that it happened to me …'” she said.
Regarding the “Mrs. Mature” comment, Gauff explained, “I definitely for sure feel like I’m sometimes, when I was a junior, especially more mature than maybe some of my peers. I don’t know why. I feel like I have always been that.”
“I don’t know what to say, but thank you. Playing on this court in such a great atmosphere, it was incredible,”
What’s next
