Results showed that the stress task increased heart rate and blood pressure. Eating fatty foods with low-flavanol drinks reduced blood vessel function, lasting up to 90 minutes after stress. Meanwhile, high-flavanol cocoa prevented the decline in blood vessel function.

Experts recommend looking for minimally processed cocoa powder in stores. Those who prefer other options can also obtain flavanols from green tea, black tea, and berries. Making small changes in food and drink choices during stressful periods can positively affect health.
