Heavy Precipitation‍ Expected in Swiss‍ Alps

⁢ ⁢ The southern side ⁤of⁣ the Swiss Alps, particularly in Western Tessin and⁣ southeastern Wallis, could see up to 200 millimeters (almost 8 inches) of rainfall within 48 hours. Higher elevations, above 2,200⁤ meters (approximately 7,200 feet), are⁢ expected to receive more than two meters ‍(over 6.5⁤ feet) of snow. Due to the heavy snowfall, the St.Bernard tunnel, a key transit point⁤ between Switzerland and Italy, has been closed to heavy freight traffic.
