New York Yankees outfielder Cody Bellinger will miss four to six weeks of play due to a Grade 2 left hamstring strain, according to the Associated Press.
The injury occurred in the eighth inning of the Saturday night game when Bellinger felt tightness in his hamstring while rounding first base on a double. Manager Aaron Boone stated before the start of a series against the Chicago White Sox that Bellinger is currently able to move around, and the team will focus on allowing the injury to heal.
Yankees Roster Impact and Current Injuries
Bellinger’s absence leaves the Yankees without several key offensive contributors.

Boone acknowledged that the team has faced difficult injuries to important personnel, noting that the season waits for no one.
To fill the void in the outfield for the series opener against the White Sox, the Yankees utilized the following lineup:
- Max Schuemann started in left field.
- Spencer Jones, recalled from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, started in center field.
- Jasson Dominguez started in right field.
Trade Deadline and Front Office Strategy
With the MLB trade deadline scheduled for next week, Boone indicated that Bellinger’s injury is unlikely to shift the existing strategy of general manager Brian Cashman and the front office. According to Boone, the front office has been working on trade deadline preparations in various forms for several weeks.
Boone expressed expectation that the organization will attempt to improve the team through the trade market, though he noted the uncertainty of how those moves will ultimately materialize.
Bellinger’s Season and Team Recovery Updates
Bellinger, 31, signed a five-year, $162.5 million contract with the Yankees last winter. Through 102 games this season, he has recorded a .259 batting average with 11 home runs and 53 RBIs.
Regarding other injured players, Giancarlo Stanton traveled to Chicago with the team. Boone reported that Stanton is continuing his running progression and has shown strong progress with strength and explosive work in the weight room. The team is now working to bring his running level up to a point where he can return to game action.
Left-hander Carlos Rodon is returning from elbow inflammation, and right-hander Clarke Schmidt is recovering from Tommy John surgery performed one year ago.
