A recent research paper published in Mexico suggests that daily coffee consumption may help protect liver health. Bioactive substances such as caffeine, polyphenols, and diterpenes in coffee perform antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-fibrotic functions, and exert a liver-protective effect through regulating microorganisms in the gut-liver axis.
According to the Korea Food Communication Forum (KOFRUM) on the 1st,a team led by Dr. Eduardo E. Vargas-Pozada of the Department of Pharmacology and Experimental Hepatology Laboratory at the National Polytechnic Institute of Cienvestave, mexico, published a research paper (Coffee and Liver Health: A Mechanistic Approach: A Comprehensive Review) on this topic in the latest issue of the international journal Biochemical Pharmacology.

In this review paper, the research team comprehensively analyzed various clinical and observational studies conducted around the world and concluded that ‘regular and moderate coffee consumption lowers the risk of liver damage and the progression of liver disease.’ Consumption of about three cups of black coffee per day has been shown to have beneficial effects on the liver in most existing studies.
