Coffee Prices Perk Up and Dip: A Mixed Bag on September 18
Domestic Coffee Prices Decrease Despite Global Market Increase
Today’s domestic coffee price (September 18) tends to decrease by 600-700 VND/kg while the world market increases slightly, partly due to high demand for coffee at the end of the year.
Today’s domestic coffee price (September 18) decreased by 600 – 700 VND/kg, fluctuating between 122,800 – 123,500 VND/kg, in which Dak Nong, Dak Lak, Gia Lai, Kon Tum provinces are the localities purchasing coffee at the highest level.
Specifically, the coffee purchase price in Gia Lai province (Chu Prong) is 123,200 VND, down 600 VND/kg compared to yesterday, in Pleiku and La Grai the same price is 123,100 VND/kg.
In Kon Tum province, coffee was traded at 123,200 VND/kg, down 600 VND/kg compared to yesterday. In Dak Nong province, coffee was purchased at 123,200 VND/kg, down 600 VND/kg compared to yesterday.
The price of green coffee beans (coffee beans, fresh coffee beans) in districts such as Bao Loc, Di Linh, Lam Ha (in Lam Dong province) was purchased at 122,800 VND/kg, down 700 VND/kg compared to yesterday.
In Dak Lak province, in Cu M’gar district, coffee was purchased at about 123,200 VND/kg, down 600 VND/kg, while in Ea H’leo district, Buon Ho town, it was purchased at 123,100 VND/kg.
Global Coffee Market Trends
At the end of the most recent trading session, Robusta coffee prices on the London floor were trading at 4,692 – 5,303 tons. Specifically, the November 2024 delivery period was 5,303 USD/ton, up 57 USD/ton; the January 2025 delivery period was 5,040 USD/ton, up 63 USD/ton; the March 2025 delivery period was 4,835 USD/ton, up 78 USD/ton and the May 2025 delivery period was 4,692 USD/ton, up 73 USD/ton.
Arabica coffee prices on the New York floor increased by 5.95 – 6.25 cents/lb. Specifically, the December 2024 delivery period is 264.50 cents/lb, up 2.3%; the March 2025 delivery period is 262.35 cents/lb (up 2.44%); the May 2025 delivery period is 259.85 cents/lb (up 2.44%) and the July 2025 delivery period is 256.60 (up 2.44%).
Market Analysis and Forecast
Explaining the recent sharp increase in world coffee prices, some businesses said that the end of the year is the time when coffee consumption demand increases while raw materials are still scarce, so prices are pushed up.
Forecasting coffee prices in the coming season when the harvest begins in October, many businesses believe that prices will stay at current levels or higher and will hardly decrease. This is also the price that processing businesses plan and finalize output orders.
Vietnam’s Coffee Exports
According to the General Department of Customs, Vietnam’s coffee exports in August reached 76,214 tons, worth 402.2 million USD, down 9.9% in volume but up sharply 55.8% in value compared to the same period in 2023.
