Cohere Health Launches AI Review Assist for Health Plans

Cohere Health, a clinical intelligence company based in Boston, MA, has released Review Assist, a new AI-driven solution designed to accelerate medical necessity reviews for health plans.The company, which focuses on AI-powered prior authorization solutions, aims to improve relationships between payers and providers with this tool.
Review Assist integrates into existing utilization management workflows, using AI and large language models to analyze clinical data.It provides actionable insights and links to data sources for reviewers. An AI chatbot is also available to answer questions and find additional details, according to the company.
Matt Parker, chief product officer at Cohere Health, spoke at the AHIP 2025 conference in Las Vegas about the new AI solution. “What we’ve built is essentially a co-pilot,” Parker said. “It is installed on top of and over yoru existing applications and it really works to focus and support the users of those applications, who are really clinical users – nurses, MDs – who are evaluating complex clinical questions.”
The tool can be used for prior authorization requests, appeals, and Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set (HEDIS) measures. Cohere Health reports that Review Assist can improve medical necessity review efficiency by up to 50% with over 99% precision. The company plans to track accuracy, efficiency, and compliance to further measure its effectiveness.
Parker added that Review Assist helps payers ensure timely and appropriate patient care. “You don’t want to delay care,” parker said. “You want to make sure care is done appropriately [and that] its done on time and it’s done correctly. And so providing opportunities to improve the speed and accuracy of this information, we think is really important.”
the launch of this new AI solution follows Cohere Health’s $90 million Series C funding round in May, bringing its total funding to $200 million. Temasek led the funding, with participation from Flare Capital Partners, Deerfield Management, Define Ventures, Longitude capital, and Polaris Partners.
Arrive Health and Rhyme are other companies working to improve prior authorization processes.
