A 4-to-6-degree temperature drop is sweeping across northern China as a fresh cold front collides with lingering precipitation, according to reports published by Xinhua News, Sina Finance, and Sohu. The drop plunges regional readings to their lowest marks since the start of autumn, pushing the mercury in Yinchuan down to 9 degrees Celsius on October 25, marking the city’s first reading below the 10-degree threshold this season.
The current temperature slide follows a sharp drop felt across Gansu, Ningxia, and Inner Mongolia, where parts of northeastern Qinghai, central Gansu, and Ningxia saw temperatures plummet by 8 to 14 degrees Celsius, according to Sina Finance. Future forecasts show the cold air mass marching eastward and southward, threatening parts of the Northeast with declines reaching up to 10 degrees Celsius by October 27.
Sina Finance reported that central and northern areas in the Northeast will experience daytime highs tumbling from the low 10s down below 5 degrees Celsius. Southern sectors in the region will similarly slide from above 15 degrees Celsius down to roughly 10 degrees Celsius before a brief, volatile temperature rebound takes hold.
Rain and Snow Move Inland as Coastal Storms Fade
While heavy downpours tied to Typhoon Prapiroon clear out from eastern coastal zones, precipitation patterns are shifting toward the Northwest, North China, and Southwest regions, Xinhua News and Sina Finance noted. Xinjiang, Tibet, Qinghai, Gansu, and Inner Mongolia are tracking snow or sleet, with isolated heavy snow warnings issued for eastern Xinjiang.

Sichuan basin is bracing for persistent light rain alongside northerly winds gusting between 4 and 6 levels, according to local meteorological data cited by Sina Finance. Daytime highs across the Sichuan basin hover between 18 and 20 degrees Celsius, with average daily temperatures dropping 3 to 6 degrees Celsius over the three-day window.
Health Precautions and Commuter Safety Warnings
Health authorities via Xinhua News issued targeted outdoor guidance, noting that a drop of 10 degrees Celsius in outdoor temperature can drive up systolic blood pressure by nearly 7 mmHg, elevating risks for cardiovascular events. Experts advise vulnerable populations—including the elderly and those with chronic respiratory or heart conditions—to delay early-morning outings until temperatures rise.

Commuters facing 6-level wind gusts are urged to avoid narrow spaces prone to the narrow pipe effect
between tall buildings, as well as aging trees and loose billboards, Xinhua News reported. Officials recommend layering clothing using an onion-style
approach and paying close attention to thermal thresholds when temperatures drop below 10 degrees Celsius.
