HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The College of Charleston men’s golf team is set to resume competition at the Wexford Intercollegiate, hosted by Francis Marion, beginning Monday, and continuing through at Wexford Golf Club in Hilton Head, South Carolina.
The tournament field is a diverse one, featuring Dayton, Gardner-Webb, Xavier, Saint Joseph’s, Temple, USC Aiken, East Carolina, Presbyterian, Mercer, Cleveland State, Samford, Western Carolina, High Point, Radford, Cornell, and DePaul alongside the Cougars.
Charleston enters the Wexford Intercollegiate following a strong showing at the Puerto Rico Classic, where they secured a tie for sixth place in a highly competitive field. Notably, the Cougars demonstrated their ability to compete with some of the nation’s top programs, defeating six teams ranked within the Power 4 conferences: Georgia (#32), Iowa, Louisville (#29), Minnesota, Purdue (#37), and Wisconsin. Individually, Nevill Ruiter’s performance in Puerto Rico was particularly noteworthy. He carded a bogey-free 65 (-7) in the final round, a remarkable display of consistency, and precision. The Wexford Intercollegiate also marked the collegiate debut for Jules Lauer, who delivered solid rounds of 70, 69, and 72.
