Morikawa seeks new caddie ahead of Rocket Mortgage Classic
Updated June 25, 2025
Two-time major champion Collin Morikawa is once again in the market for a new caddie. He and Joe Greiner have parted ways before this week’s Rocket Mortgage Classic in Detroit. The search for the right caddie role is underway.
KK Limbhasut,a former teammate of morikawa’s at Cal Berkeley, will carry his bag at Detroit Golf Club this week. Limbhasut, 29, currently competes on the Korn Ferry Tour. Morikawa described Limbhasut as a temporary “fill-in” during a Wednesday news conference.
Greiner, who previously worked with Max Homa until their split in early April, had been Morikawa’s caddie for his past five PGA Tour starts. During that stretch, Morikawa made the cut in each event, with his best finish being a tie for 17th at the Truist Championship on May 11.Morikawa, currently ranked fifth in the Official World Golf Ranking, tied for 50th at the PGA Championship and for 23rd at the U.S. Open.
Morikawa’s split with J.J. Jakovac, his only caddie as a professional until then, occurred in late April. He addressed the changes in caddie partnerships.
“I think people, they’re going to be surprised, but the way I put it is just because two people are great at what they do doesn’t mean they’re going to be great together,” Morikawa said. “I think Joe is an amazing caddie, but I think just the way we kind of saw things, or just day to day how we kind of went about it, we were just a little bit on a different page.”
Morikawa added that the fit with Greiner “just didn’t feel right” and that he needed to “explore other options.”
After his split with Homa, Greiner briefly caddied for Justin Thomas at the Masters and the RBC Heritage. Thomas won the latter, ending a nearly three-year winless streak. Thomas’s full-time caddie, matt Minister, returned from injury after that victory.
“I knew it was going to be a great start and it was going to be a fun thing for me to test out that I knew I put myself in,” Morikawa said. “but ultimately, you don’t know how you’re going to be, as we spend more time with them than anyone else in the world, honestly.”
He emphasized the importance of the caddie relationship, stating he spends more time with his caddie than even his wife.He wished both Jakovac and Greiner well.
What’s next
Morikawa said he remains uncertain about who will fill the caddie role at next month’s Open Championship at Royal Portrush Golf Club in Northern Ireland, the season’s final major.
