Suzanne Morphew was last seen May 10, 2020, near County Road 225 and West Highway 50 in Maysville, Colo., while on a bike ride. The 49-year-old mother of two was reported missing that day. Her bicycle and helmet were discovered near the family’s home in Salida, Colo.
Barry Morphew has maintained his innocence and previously pleaded not guilty. Prosecutors dropped the initial charges just before trial, citing the imminent finding of her remains, which were eventually found in September 2023 near Moffat in Saguache County.
An autopsy in April 2024 determined Suzanne Morphew’s death was a homicide. The report indicated the presence of animal tranquilizers in her system. The El Paso County coroner’s report stated she “died as a result of homicide by unspecified means in the setting of butorphanol,azaperone,and medetomidine intoxication.”
Prosecutors previously alleged Morphew used a tranquilizer gun in the murder, citing his motive as her affair and plans for divorce. Texts from Suzanne to Barry before her disappearance indicated the relationship was “done.”
