Colts QB Anthony Richardson Fined for Helmet-to-Helmet Hit: NFL’s Controversial Call
Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson received a fine of $22,511 from the NFL. This fine was due to a helmet-to-helmet hit he made against Lions defensive back Brian Branch during a recent game. The NFL labeled this action as “Unnecessary Roughness (use of the helmet).”
During the incident, both players lowered their helmets as they collided. Typically, this action is common when players prepare for impact. The inconsistency of fines in the NFL means it would not have been surprising if Branch had been fined instead of Richardson.
Quarterbacks seldom receive fines, and Richardson was the only quarterback fined this week.
