Columbus, Georgia – A 28-year-old woman was fatally shot early Thursday morning in Columbus, Georgia, and her husband was injured in the same incident. The shooting occurred in the 4500 block of Gardiner Drive, near Floyd Road, prompting a police investigation.

Lexus Antrom was pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 4:50 a.m. Thursday, according to Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan. Her husband, whose name has not been released, sustained a gunshot wound and was transported to Piedmont Emergency Room for treatment. His condition remains unknown.

Columbus police responded to a call at approximately 4:00 a.m. and discovered Antrom deceased on the floor of a bedroom. The circumstances surrounding the shooting are currently under investigation, and authorities have not yet determined if the incident was a case of domestic violence. No arrests have been made as of Friday, February 13, 2026.

The incident has prompted concern among residents of the neighborhood. Emily Bel, who has lived in the area for over 20 years, expressed both fear and sadness. “It’s scary, but I’m more saddened because it speaks to the entire society how we have not grown but basically gone backwards,” Bel said. She emphasized the need for non-violent conflict resolution, stating, “We should care for one another… We just need to accept that we disagree and not let it escalate to violence.”

The body of Lexus Antrom has been sent to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) Crime Lab in Decatur for a full autopsy. This standard procedure is intended to provide a comprehensive forensic analysis to aid investigators in understanding the events leading up to her death.

The shooting comes amid ongoing national conversations about gun violence and domestic disputes. While Columbus police have not classified this incident as domestic violence, the possibility remains under consideration as the investigation progresses. The lack of immediate clarity underscores the complexities often encountered in such cases.

Authorities are urging anyone with information related to the shooting to contact the Columbus Police Department. The investigation is ongoing, and investigators are seeking any leads that might shed light on the circumstances surrounding the death of Lexus Antrom and the injury to her husband.

The case highlights the persistent challenges faced by communities grappling with violence. The reaction from long-term residents like Emily Bel suggests a growing sense of disillusionment and a desire for more peaceful solutions to interpersonal conflicts. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the human cost of violence and the importance of fostering a culture of respect and understanding.

The Columbus Police Department has not released further details regarding the type of firearm used, potential motives, or the relationship between the victim and any potential suspects. The investigation is being handled with sensitivity, given the tragic nature of the event and the ongoing need to gather accurate information.

This incident adds to a growing number of reported shootings across the United States, raising concerns about public safety and the accessibility of firearms. While the specific details of this case are localized to Columbus, Georgia, it reflects a broader national trend of gun-related violence that continues to demand attention and effective solutions.
