Comedian Nate Bargatze has announced a special ticket pricing initiative known as the “Nate Rate” to make his upcoming feature film debut, The Breadwinner, more accessible to the general public. The announcement was made by Bargatze in a video posted to Instagram on Friday, May 8, 2026.

The initiative seeks to lower the cost of admission for the family-oriented film, which is scheduled to open in theaters on May 29, 2026. The project is a release from TriStar and Sony and represents Bargatze’s most prominent professional undertaking since he hosted the Emmy Awards ceremony in September 2025.

Because movie studios do not have the authority to dictate the pricing policies of individual cinema operators, Bargatze is encouraging theater owners to voluntarily reduce ticket costs. He specifically pointed to the discounted pricing model used for the film 80 for Brady as a successful precedent for this type of arrangement.

According to reporting from The Hollywood Reporter, several major cinema circuits have already indicated their support for the program. AMC Theatres, the largest theater chain in the United States, is among the circuits that have agreed to implement matinee pricing for screenings of The Breadwinner. Cinemark may offer discounts of up to 25 percent on tickets for the film.

Bargatze explained the motivation behind the pricing program during his social media announcement.

“Hello, everybody! My movie The Breadwinner is coming out May 29 and I’ve got something very exciting that I wanted to let you know. So the Nate Rate is a special kind of lower ticket price because we want everyone to come out to this movie.”Nate Bargatze

The film is based on an original script written by Bargatze and Dan Lagana, and was directed by Eric Appel. In the movie, Bargatze stars as Nate Wilcox, a salesman who finds his domestic life upended when his wife’s professional success creates a void at home.

Mandy Moore portrays Katie, described as the “ultimate mom” of the household. The plot centers on a household invention created by Katie that secures a significant deal on the television show Shark Tank. This opportunity requires Katie to leave for a prolonged business trip, leaving Nate in charge of the home and their children.

The narrative follows Nate as he attempts to prevent the household from falling apart in his wife’s absence. Through the process, Nate and the children discover that while his approach to parenting and home management differs from Katie’s, he is capable of finding a method that works for them.

The cast of The Breadwinner includes Bargatze and Moore, along with Stella Fitzgerald, Charlotte Tucker, and Birdie Borria.

Potential moviegoers are advised that the “Nate Rate” is not a universal flat fee, as pricing and availability will vary depending on the theater. Audiences are encouraged to check their local cinema listings to determine the specific discounts available in their area for the May 29 release.
