Comic Artist Charlotte Hoffmann Teaches Visual Storytelling

Charlotte Hoffmann recently led a creative workshop for approximately 200 children during the annual reading summer program, known as the Lesesommer, in Ramstein-Miesenbach, according to local event coverage.

During the interactive sessions, the comic artist and illustrator introduced young participants to the fundamentals of visual storytelling. Children learned how sequential art functions, discovering the basic techniques artists use to convey narratives through a combination of images and text on the page.

The annual reading initiative aims to encourage literacy and foster a love for books among youth by engaging them with diverse reading formats, including graphic novels and illustrated stories. Organizers structured the program to make reading accessible and entertaining, incorporating workshops that connect young readers directly with working creators.

Hoffmann demonstrated how panels, character expressions, and visual pacing work together to build a complete story arc. Participants had the opportunity to try out these techniques themselves, sketching their own characters and narrative sequences under the artist’s guidance.
