Comic Demands Justice for Workers Affected by AstraZeneca Vaccine
workers Affected by AstraZeneca Vaccine Seek Justice Thru Powerful Comic
Barcelona, Spain – A new comic book is shedding light on the struggles of essential workers who experienced severe health problems after receiving the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine. The project, spearheaded by the Association of People affected by the AstraZeneca Vaccine (ATEAVA), was unveiled at a press conference hosted by the Spanish trade union USO in Barcelona.
The comic,a poignant collection of personal stories from those affected, aims to raise awareness and demand recognition from the Spanish Social Security Institute (INSS).
“these workers, who bravely served on the frontlines during the pandemic, are now facing debilitating health issues,” said Pedro García, founder of ATEAVA. “We are calling on the INSS to acknowledge the link between their illnesses and the vaccine, and to provide them with the support they deserve.”
USO has been a steadfast advocate for these workers since 2022, offering guidance and working with institutions like the Prosecutor’s Office for Safety and Health, the Ombudsman, and various ministries.
Sara García, USO’s Confederal Secretary for Trade union Action and Employment, emphasized the urgency of the situation.”The government must uphold the principle of reciprocity outlined in the Strategic Vaccination Plan,” she stated. “These workers risked their lives for our safety, and they cannot be abandoned now. It’s a matter of justice and political responsibility.”
The comic, illustrated by malika, powerfully depicts the physical and emotional toll the vaccine’s side effects have taken on these individuals. Many have developed serious conditions such as myalgic encephalomyelitis, thrombosis, and heart problems, with some tragically losing their lives due to complications.
ATEAVA and USO are demanding that the INSS recognize the occupational origin of these illnesses and establish a extensive support system for those affected. They are also calling for a thorough investigation into the AstraZeneca vaccine’s side effects to prevent similar situations in future health crises.
This initiative underscores USO’s unwavering commitment to protecting the rights of essential workers.
