Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels exited Sunday’s game against the Dallas Cowboys after suffering a gruesome left elbow injury on the final play of the first half, according to reporting from FOX Sports.
The injury occurred as Daniels attempted to make a play from the 1-yard line with the clock winding down before halftime. According to FOX Sports, Daniels fumbled the snap and tried to frantically complete a pass while his arm moved awkwardly in the wrong direction. The pass fell incomplete, preserving a 17-10 lead for the Dallas Cowboys as players headed to the locker rooms.
Daniels showed immediate distress on the field, clutching his left arm and remaining down without the ability to leave unassisted. Medical staff brought out a cart moments later, and FOX Sports’ Tom Rinaldi reported that Daniels was taken straight to the X-ray room for evaluation.
Strong First-Half Performance Cut Short
Before the injury forced him from the contest, Daniels was putting together one of his strongest statistical halves of the season. According to FOX Sports, the young signal-caller completed 11 of 17 pass attempts for 96 yards and a touchdown, while also churning up 69 yards on the ground against the Dallas defense.
The sudden exit leaves the Washington offense searching for answers as the team trails 17-10. Should Daniels miss extended time, veteran quarterback Marcus Mariota is positioned to fill in under center for the Commanders, as noted by FOX Sports.
Familiar Elbow Trouble for Daniels
The latest setback bears a striking resemblance to health issues Daniels dealt with during the previous campaign. According to FOX Sports, Daniels suffered a similar injury to the exact same left elbow late in the 2025 season during a matchup against the Seattle Seahawks.
That prior dislocation contributed to a stretch that forced Daniels to miss 10 games during the 2025 season. Medical evaluations in the coming days will determine the severity of this latest arm injury and whether the Commanders will face another prolonged absence from their starting quarterback.
