Commanders Rookies Spread Holiday Cheer at Children’s National Hospital
Washington, D.C. – Teh Washington Commanders’ rookie class brought some early holiday magic to Children’s National Hospital on December 14th, spreading joy and festive cheer to patients and staff alike.
Donning festive costumes ranging from elves to snowmen, the rookies spent the day interacting with patients, posing for photos, and distributing reindeer antler headbands and gifts. Quarterback Jayden Daniels, who embraced the role of an Elf on the Shelf, highlighted the importance of bringing smiles to the children’s faces.
“I love being able to see the joy on kids’ faces,” Daniels said. “And obviously during different circumstances, obviously at the children’s hospital yesterday, just to be able to go out there and bring some joy with them, interact with them.”
Quarterback Sam hartman took his holiday spirit to the next level, transforming into Santa Claus himself. the visit held special significance for wide receiver Luke McCaffrey, who had previously partnered with patient Riley during the NFL’s “My Cause, My Cleats” campaign. riley designed the logo for McCaffrey’s cleats, supporting the Logan Project, a family initiative dedicated to helping children’s hospitals and pediatric cancer patients.
During the visit, McCaffrey surprised Riley with a special gift: her very own pair of the cleats she designed.
“I know that it’s so easy to get caught up in our own world, but at the end of the day we’re playing a kid’s game on a big stage and it puts so much into outlook of just how valuable life is,” McCaffrey said, reflecting on the experience. “To fight adversity and see somebody who’s strong enough to do that at such a young age, it’s nothing but inspirational.”
