Global health funding ​cuts trigger ⁣dramatic impact

A period ⁤of growth in global health,⁢ marked by the UN Millennium​ Declaration in 2000, has‍ concluded. This era saw increased domestic ⁤health spending‌ and development assistance,along with⁤ the creation of organizations like the Global​ Fund and Gavi. Important progress was made in reducing child mortality and controlling infectious diseases.

Though, rapid reductions in development assistance‌ for health by major funders in early 2025 ⁢have ​created​ dramatic health financing cliffs. This shift has intensified existing pressures on domestic health spending, which experienced its ⁣first per capita decrease across all countries as ⁣2000 between ​2021​ and 2022.
