Comoros President Ghazali Othmani’s Attacker Found Dead
The public prosecutor of the Comoros Islands announced the death of Ahmed Abdou, the perpetrator of the stabbing attack that left President Ghazali Othmani with minor injuries.
Public prosecutor Ali Muhammad stated that Abdou was found lying on the ground in his isolation room, and after a doctor’s examination, he was pronounced dead.
An investigation is underway to determine the circumstances surrounding Abdou’s attempt to kill the president and the factors leading to his death.
President Ghazali Othmani’s Condition
Comoros government spokeswoman Fatima Ahmed reported that President Ghazali is in “very good health” and is currently at home with his family.
Energy Minister Abu Bakr Saeed confirmed that the president is in good condition, no longer in danger, and has been treated with stitches.
The Attack
A presidential statement revealed that President Ghazali Othmani, 65, received a minor wound with a knife during a funeral ceremony for a prominent spiritual leader.
The security forces arrested the assailant, who was identified as a young man and a member of the gendarmerie, joining the service in 2022.
President Ghazali’s Background
Ghazali is a former chief of staff who came to power in a military coup and was elected to a new term last January.
However, his opponents claim that the election was rigged, which officials deny.
