Comoros President Survives Stabbing Attack, Attacker Found Dead
Comoros President Gazali Ousmani was the target of a stabbing attack on Friday, suffering minor wounds, according to the Public Prosecutor in Moroni.
The attack occurred during a funeral ceremony for a prominent religious official in the capital’s suburb, Moroni. The president was slightly injured with a knife, but his condition is stable.
The perpetrator of the attack, 24-year-old soldier Ahmed Abdo, was taken into custody by security services. However, he was found dead in his isolation room on Saturday, under mysterious circumstances.
According to the Public Prosecutor, Abdo was isolated in a room until he calmed down, but when investigators came to question him, they found him lying on the ground, unresponsive. Examination confirmed that he was dead.
Abdo, a resident of the Suleiman-Estandara region, was the sole perpetrator of the attack. The incident has raised concerns about the security situation in Comoros.
