Legal Action in Ireland

AlphaSights Ltd, an England and Wales-registered expert ⁢network service provider, has ‍initiated legal proceedings⁤ in the Irish Commercial Court against AlphaSense Inc and ⁢its Irish subsidiary, Tegus Ltd, based in Waterford. The lawsuit centers on‌ allegations⁣ of trademark infringement due to the similarity of their names, which AlphaSights claims is causing notable confusion in the marketplace.

Extent of the Confusion

According ‌to an affidavit submitted by⁤ Naida Khan, London-based managing counsel for AlphaSights, the confusion stemming from AlphaSense’s activities is “intolerable.” The company reports⁣ instances of misdirected emails and invoices being sent to ‍the incorrect entities, especially within the United States. this ongoing ⁢issue is compounding damage to the AlphaSights brand.

Global Impact⁣ and Concurrent Litigation

the impact of the name similarity extends beyond simple misdirection. alphasense’s recent association of the “Alphasummit” conference in New York City, marketed to a global audience,‌ has further exacerbated the confusion. alphasights notes that related legal battles are already underway in both the US and england.

Seeking Resolution

In the Irish proceedings, AlphaSights is pursuing both monetary damages ‍and a court injunction to prevent‌ AlphaSense from what they ‌allege is ⁢”passing off” their trademark – presenting their⁤ services as if they were⁢ AlphaSights’. ‍The case was admitted to the fast-track commercial list on November 4,2024,with the⁣ consent of⁣ both parties,as per the submission of Jonathan ⁤Newman SC,representing AlphaSights.
