PARIS (AP) — France’s Culture Minister Rachida Dati announced Monday⁢ the designation of⁤ Concorde Number ⁢1, a prototype of‍ the Franco-British supersonic airliner, and its associated equipment as historic monuments.

Dati stated ‍on X, formerly Twitter,⁣ that “This plane embodied the industrial force and the capacity for innovation of France on the aeronautically. it was also a⁣ symbol of our ability to international cooperation.”

According to a ministry press release, Concorde N1 is one of 20 aircraft ⁤built ‍between 1967 and 1979.Eighteen of thes aircraft are ⁢preserved today,⁤ including six in France.

Concorde ‍N1‍ was one of two prototypes used to obtain the necessary ⁢airworthiness certificate for passenger transport.⁢ It completed its maiden voyage on Dec. 6, 1973, and its final flight on May 26, 1982. It paved the way for flights between Paris and New York starting Oct. 19, 1977.
