Conference Fails to Quell Controversy: Son Joon-ho Speaks Out, ‘It Was Just a Money Transaction
Son Jun-ho’s Emotional Plea: A Tale of False Confession and Unfair Ban
Son Jun-ho, a midfielder for Suwon FC, recently shared his side of the story regarding the disciplinary action taken by the Chinese Football Association. In a heart-wrenching account, he revealed that his son and daughter were coerced into making false confessions by Chinese public security.
According to Son, his children were told that they would be released from the detention center within 15 days if they confessed to the charges. This led to their false admission of guilt, which has had severe consequences for Son’s career.
Son also addressed the allegations of match-fixing, stating that he received 200,000 yuan from Jin Jingdao, a Korean-Chinese player, as a payment for a match. However, he emphasized that this was a legitimate transaction between friends and not a bribe.
The Chinese Football Association had previously announced that the match against Shanghai SIPG had been fixed, but Son maintains his innocence. He questioned the logic behind the allegations, pointing out that the bonus for winning each game was 160,000 yuan, making it illogical for him to engage in match-fixing for a relatively small amount of money.
Son also revealed that he was sentenced to 10 months in prison for taking bribes by Chinese judicial authorities. However, he chose not to appeal the decision, hoping to escape the situation as quickly as possible.
Despite the ‘permanent ban’ from the Chinese Football Association, Son is hesitant to file a case at the Court of Arbitration for Sport or CAS. His agent, Park Dae-yeon, expressed confidence that the lack of evidence would work in their favor, stating that FIFA would likely not support the Chinese Football Association’s decision.
In a candid interview, Son Jun-ho shared his side of the story, emphasizing that he only told the truth. However, he acknowledged that some parts of his statement may still be unclear, as it is the only evidence of his innocence.
