The documentary paints a picture of a close-knit community grappling with a shocking crime.Neighbors and acquaintances describe the McCullough family as somewhat odd. John,a university lecturer, was seen as strict, while Lois was quiet and withdrawn. Ginny, however, was more outgoing, though described by some as a fantasist.
The investigation began after the family’s doctor raised concerns about their missed appointments. Police discovered the bodies after a raid on the house. Bodycam footage shows McCullough calmly cooperating with officers, even joking about their success in catching “the bad guy.”
‘Cheer up!’ Ginny cajoles the shocked officers.‘At least you caught the bad guy!’
The documentary explores potential motives for the murders, including suggestions of abuse and mental health issues.
