Connacht-Munster Rugby Match Approved for MacHale Park
Connacht Rugby Eyes Historic Clash with Munster at Iconic Gaelic Football venue
Castlebar, ireland – Connacht Rugby fans could be in for a treat as the province looks set to host Munster at the historic Hastings Insurance MacHale Park in Castlebar. The proposed fixture, approved by the GAAS Central Council, woudl see the two Irish rivals clash in round 14 of the BKT United Rugby Championship on Saturday, March 29th.
Negotiations between Connacht and Mayo GAA are reportedly in advanced stages, with the province hoping to finalize details in the coming weeks.”Our reaction as coaches and players is one of excitement,” said Connacht head coach Pete Wilkins. “It’s a little way off coming together as a plan but the prospect of it is brilliant. To go to a historic venue of that size, taking the game to another part of the province is a really good prospect.”
This move would mark a meaningful moment for Connacht Rugby, following in the footsteps of the other three provinces who have successfully hosted home games at GAA grounds in recent years.

In other news, Connacht has decided against appealing the red card received by number 8 Sean Jansen during their 28-14 loss to the Bulls on Saturday. Jansen was sent off in the 21st minute for a risky tackle.
Currently sitting eighth in the URC standings, Connacht will now turn their attention to their Challenge Cup clash against zebre on Saturday at 8pm.
