Dupont Circle Deck Project to Snarl Traffic for Two Years

A notable construction project to build a deck over a portion of Connecticut avenue NW in Northwest D.C.’s Dupont Circle is slated to begin next week, transportation officials announced. The project, which aims to create a more welcoming public space, is expected to cause traffic disruptions for approximately two years.
Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner Jeff Rueckgauer said the project has been decades in the making.rueckgauer added that the goal is to create a welcoming space for everyone.
Work will commence on the median of Connecticut Avenue, stretching as far north as T Street, near the Washington Hilton. The D.C. department of Transportation (DDOT) said the most substantial transportation effects are anticipated to begin in July. DDOT assures that at least one lane of traffic will remain open throughout the construction period.
The community is encouraged to provide suggestions for the new space’s use, including potentially relocating the dupont Circle farmers market to the area on weekends.
