Historic Opening of the Počitelj – Zvirovići Subdivision and the Hercegovina Bridge
The Počitelj – Zvirovići subdivision and the Hercegovina bridge, a monumental infrastructure project, were officially opened with a grand ceremony, marking a significant milestone in Bosnia and Herzegovina’s transport connection with the European Union.
During the opening ceremony, esteemed guests, including the director of JP Autocesta FBiH Denis Lasić, the Prime Minister of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina Nermin Nikšić, and the chairman of the BiH Council of Ministers Borjana Krišto, addressed the attendees.
The Bar is Set High
Chairman Krišto emphasized that the Hercegovina bridge not only connects the south and north of Bosnia and Herzegovina but also facilitates a corridor through Croatia, enabling the development of the economy and governance. This achievement demonstrates that together, great goals can be realized.
Krišto added that this project sets a high standard for the development of the country’s infrastructure, showcasing the potential of domestic and international organizations working together to make a lasting contribution to the region.
It Was Worth the Effort
Federal Prime Minister Nikšić congratulated the citizens of the Federation on the new kilometers of highway, promising to build and open as many kilometers as possible to connect Bosnia and Herzegovina with the European corridor.
Director Lasić stated that the FBiH Highways Administration has demonstrated its capability to handle challenging projects, and the trust shown to them as an investor is a confirmation of the quality work of the Government of the Federation of BiH.
Regular Traffic from Tomorrow
The Počitelj-Zvirovići subdivision and the Hercegovina bridge will be open for regular traffic from September 5, from noon.
The Herzegovina Bridge is a strategic infrastructure project that connects the southern part of Bosnia and Herzegovina with the European network of transport corridors. It is part of the subdivision Počitelj – Zvirovići, stretching 11.07 kilometers and connecting Počitelj to the Croatian border through the Bijača border crossing.
The Hercegovina Bridge stands out for its height, with the highest pillar of 97 meters, making it the highest bridge on the Vc corridor and one of the highest bridges in this part of Europe.
The opening of this bridge is a significant step in Bosnia and Herzegovina’s transport connection with the European Union, expected to improve economic opportunities and enhance the tourism potential of the region.
The total value of the work on the Počitelj – Zvirovići subdivision is 101.3 million euros without VAT, of which 30.4 million euros are for the Hercegovina bridge itself without VAT.
