Coffin recently spoke about adjusting to life after professional surfing. He’s traded contest jerseys for quality time with his 10-month-old son and other passions.
Stepping away from the tour has allowed coffin to reconnect with the ocean in new ways. his recent partnership with Costa, an ocean-minded eyewear brand, reflects this shift.
Coffin expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration. He noted Costa’s commitment to quality eyewear and support for ocean-related activities. He also appreciates their sustainability efforts.
“I’m super excited to work with the crew at Costa! They make such great glasses and support people that I look up to, from Mark Healey to Kimi Werner,” Coffin said. “I’m excited about the opportunity because it extends beyond just surfing into all of the activities that I love on the ocean.”
Eye protection is crucial for Coffin, given his constant exposure to the water. He emphasizes the importance of quality lenses for reducing glare and protecting his eyes during long days at the beach or on his boat. Costa sunglasses provide the protection he needs to continue enjoying his ocean activities.

Coffin’s desire to own a boat stemmed from his love for the ocean and various water activities. The boat provides a means to explore the coast and share experiences with loved ones. Restoring an older boat is a local tradition, adding a special importance to the project.
The boat project has sparked Coffin’s interest in shaping surfboards. He sees parallels between boat building and surfboard shaping, considering how objects move through water. Shaping his own boards is a future goal, offering a new creative outlet.
“It’s been a cool intersection for me. My family’s been in building my whole life… And of course I grew up surfing, being around boards, fiberglass and studying the flow of water over stuff,” said Coffin.
Coffin also hosts a podcast, interviewing surfers and ocean enthusiasts. He aims to explore the connection between surfing and other aspects of life.
Reflecting on a recent trip to the north Shore, Coffin acknowledged a shift in his approach to big wave surfing. As a father, he prioritizes safety and makes more calculated decisions in the water.
