Oakmont, Pa. — Corey Conners’ role in the U.S.Open came to an abrupt end Sunday.the Canadian golfer, ranked No. 21 in the world, pulled out of the final round because of a right wrist injury, impacting his FedEx Cup standings.
Conners was slated to play alongside New Zealand’s Ryan Fox. The injury, initially sustained on a bunker shot Thursday, resurfaced Saturday. After a strong front nine, Conners re-injured his wrist on the 11th hole, further complicating his golf tournament performance.
Despite the pain, Conners finished Saturday’s round, carding a 2-over 72 after being examined by a doctor. Michael Kim, his playing partner, noted Conners’ struggle to continue.
“I didn’t think he was going to play the rest of the way,” Kim told the Toronto Sun.”I feel bad for him because he was playing so good.”
