Fiktor Harefa, a security guard at Jakarta’s Bundaran HI, has declined a summons from the West Java Regional Police (Polda Jabar) Professional Security Division (Propam). The reason: his employer will not grant him further leave.

Harefa entered the public eye after a confrontation with the driver of a Toyota Alphard went viral. According to Kompas.com, the dispute began when the driver allegedly drove over a zebra cross crossing, sparking a clash over pedestrian right-of-way.

The Alphard Ownership Mystery

As video footage of the tension circulated, social media speculation surged. Some reports suggested the driver was a police officer or linked to a medical professional. CNN Indonesia later clarified that the owner of the Alphard is not a member of the police force.

The paper trail grew more complex. Suara.com reported that the vehicle had changed hands; while previously linked to a doctor, the current ownership status shifted the identity of the party involved in the dispute.

Employment Clash and Legal Summons

The Polda Jabar Propam sought to question Harefa as part of their investigation. He cannot attend. Kompas.com noted that Harefa stated he is unable to request additional time off from his job to travel for the questioning.

Amidst this legal friction, a different kind of offer emerged. Dedi Mulyadi, known as KDM, offered Harefa a job following the viral nature of the incident. Harefa rejected it. He chose to remain in his current position and continue working in Jakarta, according to Kompas.com.

Pedestrian Safety at Bundaran HI

The argument was about more than one car. It was about the friction between urban infrastructure and driver behavior in Jakarta’s central business district.

Tirto.id highlighted the “arrogance” of drivers in the district. The report pointed to the ongoing challenges facing pedestrians using the zebra crosses installed during the administration of former Governor Anies Baswedan. The catalyst remained the same: a driver’s refusal to yield to pedestrians at the crossing.
