The Coomera Cutters rugby club in Australia has launched an expanded mental health support initiative following the deaths of two young players, Treyvon Bradshaw and Kaiyah Kennedy, who died by suicide within days of each other, rtl.de reported.

Club Expands Mental Health Support

Treyvon Bradshaw, 13, and Kaiyah Kennedy, 12, died within days of each other, according to reports by rtl.de and News.com.au. Australian media outlets noted that there are no indications linking the two deaths. Treyvon was an active player for the Coomera Cutters, while Kaiyah had played for the club previously. The tragedy has prompted the club to strengthen its mental health and bereavement resources for young athletes.

Coomera Cutters Community Response

Club president Joe Smith stated that both boys were valued members of the Coomera Cutters community, noting that the losses are difficult for families, players, and coaches to process. Smith told News.com.au that the club is evaluating additional measures to raise awareness of mental health challenges. The Coomera Cutters already participate in the Queensland Rugby League Support Squad program, which utilizes volunteers to assist individuals dealing with psychological distress.

Community Fundraising Supports Affected Families

Beyond internal club programs, community outreach has generated substantial financial support for the affected families. News.com.au reported that online fundraising campaigns hosted on GoFundMe have raised more than 50,000 Australian dollars. The Coomera Cutters plan to host further fundraising events to honor Treyvon and Kaiyah while keeping youth mental health awareness central to the organization’s mission.

If you are experiencing suicidal thoughts, please seek help immediately. Try talking to someone about it!
