Maniçoba,Brazil – A small cooperative of mango farmers in northeastern Brazil is celebrating a successful first year,selling nearly 200 tons of fruit to a major exporter.The Cooperativa de Produtores rurais de Manga de Maniçoba (Cooperman) has partnered with grand Valle Importadora e Exportadora Ltda. to bring their mangoes to national markets.
The partnership, facilitated by the Brazilian Micro and Small Business Support Service (Sebrae), has been a boon for the cooperative and its members.
“Beyond the commercial partnership, GrandValle plays an crucial role in qualifying our members, which directly influences the socioeconomic situation in the region,” said Cristiano Borges, president of Cooperman. “There’s also collaboration in the exchange of information,knowlege,and technologies that are often out of reach for small producers who are isolated from major centers. All of this leads us to believe in even more generous numbers in the future.”
Grand valle’s Ilvison Lima, manager of procurement, praised the cooperative’s rapid success. “With Sebrae’s support, Cooperman is moving forward quickly to achieve its goals. This partnership fosters growth and lends credibility to the actions of the producers who make up the cooperative, and it makes us all proud at GrandValle.”
Lara Secchi, CEO of Grand Valle, highlighted the historic nature of the initiative in the São Francisco Valley. “I can say that this is the first mango producer cooperative in our region to achieve success,knowing how to use support,knowledge from partners,and government incentives,while valuing clarity in negotiations. We are pleased to see that our partnership is a network that strengthens and promotes association among producers who, united, become stronger to face the challenges of the market.”
Carlos Cointeiro, Sebrae’s regional manager in Juazeiro, called the initiative revolutionary. “Cooperman brings an innovative attitude, great maturity, awareness, and commitment to this critically important segment of our economy, which is fruit production. The results achieved in a short time reflect the performance of the members, who quickly learned the lessons shared by GrandValle and Sebrae throughout the entire production and marketing process.”
Cointeiro believes Cooperman’s success will inspire other producers in the São Francisco Valley to organize and adopt best practices. “They can count on Sebrae’s support,which encourages this process,constantly improving relationships to contribute to the success of small rural entrepreneurs.”
The meeting concluded with a tour of Grand Valle’s packing house, offering a glimpse into the journey these mangoes take from farm to table.
