Copenhagen ⁢has been recognized as the world’s most liveable city, according to the Economist Intelligence Unit’s (EIU) 2025 global ranking. The Danish capital⁤ unseated Vienna, Austria, which had held the top position for three consecutive years. The annual survey assesses 173 cities based on factors including ⁤healthcare, culture, habitat, ⁤education, infrastructure, and stability.

The EIU report highlighted Copenhagen’s strengths in health⁣ services, cultural offerings, environment, ⁣infrastructure, ‌educational institutions ‍and overall stability. ⁢The city was‌ one of onyl six to achieve a perfect score in the stability category.

Vienna’s decline in the ranking was attributed to two foiled terrorist ⁤attacks in⁢ 2024, which impacted its stability score. Barsali Bhattacharyya, ⁣deputy ⁤industry director at EIU, ‌noted that global liveability has remained stagnant, with stability scores declining⁤ worldwide.

Several British ⁤cities,⁤ including London, Manchester, and edinburgh, experienced a drop in their rankings due ‍to disturbances and rising homelessness. Zurich, Switzerland, secured the third position, followed by ⁢Melbourne, Australia, in fourth place.

Lars⁣ Bertolt Winther, head of tourism for ‌the Confederation of Danish‌ Industry (DI), welcomed Copenhagen’s ranking. He told Ritzau that it⁣ enhances‍ the city’s ability to attract visitors and interest, citing‍ its strong ‍international reputation.
