Livingston, N.J. — — CoreWeave, Inc. (Nasdaq: CRWV) today launched CoreWeave ARENA, a new laboratory designed to help companies evaluate the performance and cost of their artificial intelligence workloads before full-scale deployment. The platform aims to bridge the gap between initial model testing and real-world production environments, addressing a critical challenge for businesses rapidly integrating AI into their operations.
CoreWeave, which positions itself as “The Essential Cloud for AI,” describes ARENA as a production-scale testing ground. It pairs substantial computing power with a standardized evaluation environment, moving beyond traditional sandbox or demonstration setups. The company believes this will allow organizations to gain more accurate insights into how their AI systems will perform at scale, without the significant overhead of building and maintaining bespoke evaluation processes.
The need for such a platform stems from the increasing complexity of AI deployments. As AI becomes more integral to daily business operations, the interplay between infrastructure and software is paramount. Workloads are becoming more continuous and distributed, and even small differences in performance or cost can have a significant impact, particularly as the underlying technologies – from accelerators to AI agents – evolve rapidly.
“Companies are now building products that have to perform in the real world, and quickly. But there’s been a gap between testing a model and actually running it at scale. CoreWeave ARENA closes that gap,” said Chen Goldberg, Senior Vice President, Engineering at CoreWeave. “We’re giving customers the tools and data they need to know exactly how their workloads will behave and what they will cost before they ever switch on production.”
The launch of CoreWeave ARENA comes at a time of intense competition in the AI infrastructure space. The platform offers a way for businesses to validate their AI investments and ensure they are prepared for the demands of production environments. According to Dave McCarthy, research vice president, Cloud and Edge Services, Worldwide Infrastructure at IDC, CoreWeave is providing “an element of understanding and cost-certainty that was missing from the AI race, and is especially crucial for emerging companies.” McCarthy highlighted the importance of testing during the inference stage – when models are actively processing data – to ensure scalability and efficient resource utilization.
CoreWeave ARENA provides access to several key technologies that differentiate the company’s AI-native platform. These include CoreWeave Mission Control, described as an AI operating standard providing visibility into system behavior; AI-native infrastructure built on SUNK (Slurm on Kubernetes) and CKS (CoreWeave Kubernetes Service), with optional integration with tools like Weights & Biases for model tracking; and LOTA (Local Object Transport Accelerator) for high-throughput data movement from object storage to AI infrastructure.
Early adopters of CoreWeave ARENA are already reporting positive results. Periodic Labs, for example, used the platform to gain clarity on workload performance before committing to a full proof of concept. Xander Dunn, Member of Technical Staff at Periodic Labs, stated that running workloads on production-scale infrastructure provided “early, concrete insight into both performance and cost,” enabling more informed decision-making.
Specific benefits observed by customers include a greater than 2x performance improvement compared to previous generation hardware when testing on an NVIDIA GB300 NVL72 rack, a roughly 30% reduction in Total Cost of Ownership (TCO), and a 10x improvement in training time compared to a competitor’s cloud platform using the same GPU. These results underscore the potential for significant gains in efficiency and cost-effectiveness through optimized AI infrastructure.
CoreWeave’s broader strategy centers on unifying the tools necessary for running AI at scale on a single cloud platform. This includes high-performance compute, data storage compatible with multiple cloud environments, and the software layer required for AI development, testing, and deployment. Recent innovations, such as Serverless RL – a fully managed reinforcement learning capability – further expand the platform’s capabilities. The company’s commitment to performance is also reflected in its industry-leading MLPerf benchmark results and its Platinum rankings in both SemiAnalysis ClusterMAX™ 1.0 and 2.0, demonstrating its ability to deliver reliable and efficient AI infrastructure at scale.
The launch of CoreWeave ARENA represents a move towards greater transparency and predictability in the rapidly evolving AI landscape. By providing a standardized environment for evaluating AI workloads, CoreWeave aims to empower businesses to make more informed decisions and accelerate their adoption of AI technologies.
