Brick Lane, a well-known party pub and sports venue in Cork city centre, has announced it will close its doors permanently on April 8, 2026. The venue, located on South Main Street, served as a hub for live sport and nightlife for nearly 11 years.
The closure comes as a result of rising running costs and the ongoing cost of living crisis. Management stated that the sums don’t stack up any more
, leading to the decision to shut the business after service on Wednesday, April 8, 2026.
A Hub for Live Sport and Community
Since opening in June 2015, Brick Lane established itself as a destination for sports fans and social gatherings. The venue was specifically known for being a great spot to catch live sport
and hosting lively quiz nights for its patrons.
The establishment was launched by hospitality operators Eamon Walsh and Phil Ryan following a renovation project costing €1 million. At the time of its opening, the venue took over the premises previously occupied by The Classic and targeted a demographic of 25 to 35-year-olds.
During its peak, the venue employed up to 60 people and provided a quirky setting for food, drinks, and cocktails. The business managed to survive the challenges of the pandemic, but the current economic climate has made continued operation unsustainable.
Economic Pressures and Local Context
The decision to close follows a period of significant change within the Cork bar and hospitality scene. The closure of Brick Lane is part of a wider trend involving various pub sales and reopenings across the city.
Management also noted that the venue had hoped to benefit from the planned events centre at the former Beamish brewery site. Although the sod for that project had been turned, development had still not taken place, impacting the anticipated growth and footfall for businesses in the immediate area.
It’s with a heavy heart that we have to tell you we are closing our doors after service on Wednesday, the 8th of April. It’s been an amazing almost 11 years trading. Some very hard times, but also some very good times.
