Cork city is set to become a haven for stout lovers wiht the launch of a brand new, immersive experience at Clancy’s Cork on Princes Street. Inspired by the iconic Guinness Storehouse in Dublin, the new “Arthur’s Bar” will allow visitors to pull their own perfect pint of Guinness - and soon, Beamish and Murphy’s – adding a unique draw for both tourists and locals alike.
A Resurgence of Stout in the Rebel County
According to Paul Montgomery, a key figure behind the project, Cork’s pub scene is thriving. “There’s 150 to 200 pubs in Cork you can go for a pint in tonight, and there’s a renaissance in stout drinking at the moment,” he explains. “The art of pulling a good pint is something that is truly Irish, and what the tourists want, and what the locals want.”
This isn’t just about serving a drink; it’s about celebrating a tradition. Montgomery highlights the growing interest in the perfect pint, and the desire to experience authentic Irish pub culture. The new experience aims to capitalize on this, offering something truly special.
The Guinness Experience – Cork Style
Visitors to Arthur’s Bar will be able to replicate the popular Guinness Storehouse experience, but with a distinctly Cork flavor. “You’ll be able to pull your own perfect pint, do the selfie in the stout,” Montgomery says, ”we are mimicking what thay are doing in the Storehouse in Dublin but doing it in our own unique Cork way.”
This hands-on approach is designed to be more than just a novelty. It’s about connecting visitors with the craft and heritage of stout brewing, and creating a memorable experience they won’t find anywhere else in Ireland. Imagine the perfect pour, the creamy head, and the satisfaction of enjoying a pint you created.
Beyond Guinness: Beamish and Murphy’s to Get the Star Treatment
But the excitement doesn’t stop with the black stuff. Montgomery has plans to extend the “pull your own pint” experience to Cork’s other beloved stouts.
“I’m going to do a similar experience with Beamish and Murphy’s in JJ Walsh’s, which is a very good pub for us,” he revealed. The rollout will be swift, beginning immediately after the launch of arthur’s Bar in Clancy’s on Friday week.
This commitment to showcasing all of Cork’s stout heritage is a key differentiator. It acknowledges the strong local loyalty to beamish and Murphy’s, and provides a complete stout experience for visitors.
Boosting Cork’s Tourism and Nightlife
Clancy’s isn’t just adding a new attraction; it’s investing in Cork’s overall tourism appeal. “We’re very much gearing this toward people who like a pint of stout, and we want to boost the whole tourist base in Cork,” Montgomery stated.
The venue will also operate as a live music venue seven nights a week, staying open until midnight on weeknights and 2.30am on weekends, further enhancing Cork’s vibrant nightlife.
Montgomery is confident that this new offering will set Cork apart. “We’ll have something unique in Cork that isn’t in Killarney, or Waterford, or isn’t anywhere else,” he concludes. This dedication to creating a unique and authentic experience promises to make Clancy’s Cork a must-visit destination for stout enthusiasts and anyone looking to experience the true spirit of the Rebel County.
