A Cork solicitor and landlord has settled a tax bill exceeding $350,000 with the Revenue Commissioners, according to the agencyS latest list of tax defaulters. Terence English, of Ballytore, Woodview, Douglas Road, was found to owe over $223,000 in unpaid income tax following an audit.
The total settlement, including interest and penalties, amounted to $356,299.English’s case was among 36 settlements totaling $15 million published by Revenue for the third quarter of 2023 (July-September).
The largest settlement on the list involved property developers Vieira Limited, a Dublin-based company now in liquidation.Vieira Limited owed over $6.7 million, primarily due to under-declared VAT. While the company settled a portion of the debt, over $6 million remains unpaid.
Court-Imposed Fines Also Announced
In addition to settlements, Revenue also published a list of individuals facing court-imposed penalties for tax offenses. Four Cork residents appeared on this list, facing fines totaling nearly $80,000.
Elizabeth Lenihan, a PAYE employee from Charleville, was fined $1,250 for claiming ineligible income tax relief. Patrick Delaney, of Commons Road, received a $2,500 fine for misusing marked mineral oil.
John O’Sullivan, a PAYE employee from Fairhill, and Maurice Robert Twomey, a taxi driver from Shandon, were each fined $2,500 for tobacco smuggling.
