Corporate Card Controversy: Kim Hye-kyung to Face Prosecutors’ Grilling Today
Kim Hye-kyung Summoned for Questioning Over Misuse of Gyeonggi Province Corporate Cards
Kim Hye-kyung, the wife of Democratic Party of Korea leader Lee Jae-myung, is set to appear at the prosecution today for questioning in relation to suspicions of misuse of Gyeonggi Province corporate cards.
The Suwon District Prosecutors’ Office will summon Kim Hye-kyung for questioning as a suspect this afternoon. The summons is part of an investigation into allegations that Kim and her husband, then-governor Lee Jae-myung, misused Gyeonggi-do’s budget for personal use between 2018 and 2019.
According to the allegations, the couple had provincial government special service officials, including Bae, pay for personal food expenses using Gyeonggi-do corporate cards. This misuse of corporate cards is at the center of the prosecution’s investigation.
The prosecution has notified Kim of the summons, explaining that it is an opportunity for her to hear the charges brought against her and provide a statement through normal investigative procedures based on the Criminal Procedure Act.
