Ponca Tribe Offers Comprehensive Recovery Program for Native Americans

Ponca City, OK – – The Ponca Tribe of Indians of Oklahoma operates a 60-day residential treatment facility dedicated to supporting Native American men and women, aged 18 and older, on their journey to recovery from substance use disorders. The Hope and Recovery Center provides a holistic approach, integrating traditional practices with evidence-based therapies.

The program offers a range of services designed to address the complex needs of individuals struggling with addiction. These include Alcohol and Drug Education, Group Therapy, Individual and Family Counseling, and a 12-Step Program. Recognizing the importance of community and cultural connection, the center also incorporates AA Meetings, NA Meetings, Parenting Classes, and Traditional and Cultural Activities into its curriculum.

“We understand that recovery is not a one-size-fits-all process,” said Jake Roberts, Program Director at the Hope and Recovery Center. “Our goal is to provide a safe and supportive environment where individuals can explore their challenges, develop coping mechanisms, and build a foundation for long-term sobriety.”

Eligibility for the program requires applicants to possess a Tribal CDIB (Certificate Degree of Indian Blood), a current medical examination report, and a completed biopsychosocial evaluation conducted by staff. The center emphasizes a thorough assessment process to ensure participants are well-suited for the intensive residential program.

Latasha Leon, Program Supervisor, highlighted the importance of individualized care. “We work closely with each participant to develop a personalized treatment plan that addresses their specific needs and goals. Our team is committed to providing compassionate and culturally sensitive support throughout the recovery process.”

The Hope and Recovery Center is staffed by a dedicated team of professionals, including case managers like Nellie Zotigh, who assist participants with navigating logistical and support services, and administrative staff such as Francis Primeaux, who ensure the smooth operation of the facility. The center is located at 210 Starting Point Drive in Ponca City, Oklahoma, and can be reached at 580-749-7322.

The availability of specialized treatment programs like the Ponca Tribe’s Hope and Recovery Center is particularly crucial given the ongoing challenges of substance abuse and the disproportionate impact on Native American communities. Resources like SAMHSA’s National Helpline (1-800-662-HELP) and FindTreatment.gov offer further support and information for individuals seeking help with mental and substance use disorders.

The center’s commitment extends beyond immediate treatment, aiming to empower individuals to sustain their recovery and contribute positively to their communities. The integration of traditional and cultural activities underscores the importance of honoring and preserving Native American heritage as a vital component of the healing process.
